My credit card company insists I upgrade the macOS in order to access my CC account

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro with Ventura OS. My credit card company insists I upgrade the OS in order to access my CC account. I don't really want to, nor do I know if an upgrade is available. My computer says it's up to date. What do I do?

Since a 2017 MacBook Pro cannot upgrade to Sonoma or later, you should verify in System Settings > General > Software Update that a newer version of Ventura 13.6.9 and Safari 17.6 could be waiting for installation.

Ventura is still a current macOS version with full support. It will still be current when Sequoia is released.

I assume this is not actually your credit card company refusing to give you an online account unless you can prove you have updated - but rather that when you go to their website you get some "your browser is out of date" error?

Could you perhaps provide the exact wording, or a screenshot?

Probably, many financial institutions are still checking this outdated and deprecated browser user agent string:

instead of getting the actual browser version number from the JavaScript used in this example.

One would enclose that JavaScript content in the HTML head section:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
⋮
</script>
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>

and open that in their browser. What I see in Safari 17.6 using that code:

and if a user disables JavaScript in their browser, then they are likely in for a website access rejection…
