SMS Forwarding Creating New Threads on Mac

I am having some issues with SMS forwarding to my Mac. Whenever an SMS message is sent (whether it's in a group chat or individually), it is not only sent to me but it's also sent to me *as an additional contact*.

Here's what I mean.

It's fine (but weird) individually, but it creates a new thread in group chats and makes a mess of things.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

I've tried:

  • Signing out and turning Messages off on both the Mac and Phone
  • Resetting network settings on iPhone
  • Restoring iPhone
  • Send/receive is set the only my phone number

It's driving me mad!

This just started happening to me, too, after updating the MacOS over the weekend. It's like there is a split personality. Depending on the device, my response sometimes shows up in a thread all by itself with none of the other members' messages. Same iOS and OSX as the OP.

In addition to logging out of Messages on all devices and restarting, I've also tried merging all the duplicate contact cards for myself.
