Tired of resetting passwords. How can I see existing passwords?

If you aren't using any 3rd party password apps, then one option is to access any saved password on your Mac's Keychain.

You would use the Keychain Access app for that.

Here’s how:

1. Go to Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.
2. Navigate to the Passwords:
3. In the sidebar, select Login under the "Keychains" section and Passwords under the "Category" section.
4. Scroll through the list to find the account or website you want to view the password for. You can also use the search bar in the top right to quickly find the specific entry.
5. Double-click on the entry. A new window will pop up.
6. Check the box that says "Show password." You’ll be prompted to enter your macOS user account password to confirm your identity.
7. After entering your password, the saved password will be displayed.

As has been mentioned you really should be using a third party password management app such as 1 Password that will run on a variety of OS's including:

• Mac OS
• IOS
• iPad IOS
• Android
• MS Windows

With the large amount of passwords many of us have to manage, operating without a PW manager is really shortsighted.

Personally I use 1Password (long-time user) and while there are other PW managers out there, I have had great luck with 1Password. It even works in the Cloud which is really nice as I have multiple devices that I use the app for. This means when I update on 1 device the other devices are automatically updated too.

Also in your Browser, like..

Safari>Preferences>Passwords.

If Sierra has the equivalent of Ventura's System Settings > Passwords, you may be able to see Web site passwords that Safari has saved for you by

• Going there
• Entering your local Administrator password (to be allowed to see and change passwords settings)
• Mousing over obscured password fields for individual account/password entries

The Mac will not show you its own local account passwords, by design.
