iPad Pro 9.7 Trade-In

I recently set up a trade-in with Apple. The only thing wrong with my old iPad Pro was that the battery life drained very quickly, so it always had to be plugged in. But it still worked and it was in perfect physical condition. I used it right up to the very last day I had it. I erased the device and carefully packed it up in the kit that they provided. But after I packaged it up, I realized that I left the screen protector on. I wasn’t going to rip the package open again. I just hoped that they’d know there was a protector on it and carefully peel it off.

At first the trade in was approved and it said I didn’t have to do anything. But just tonight, I happened to open Apple account by accident only to see that attention was needed. My trade-in amount has been revised to $0. Reason says: LCD display burn in damage/streaks/discoloration across the screen, display has white spots.

I find this very hard to believe! Not sure how to dispute this…if that’s even possible.

I called the United States and Canada line. Was passed through about 5 different support people. It took a bit to be redirected to the trade-in department. I get it...Apple is a very large company. I wasn't on hold for THAT long considering. So kudos to them for that. I finally ended up speaking with a sales person. She has put in a request for reassessment with the screen protector removed. That will take 24 hours. And then I will receive an email with an update. Now I will wait patiently and hope for the best! Thanks everyone for your advice!

So glad to hear that!

Did you take any pictures before you sent it in? You should be offered the option to have it returned to you. At that point, you can try taking it to your local Apple Store to see if there's anything they can do, though it may be that too much time has passed.

If all else fails, you can sell it yourself. It's often possible to get more that way that you would with a trade in.

Now that I think of it, I did have a problem with a trade in, albeit a different sort of problem. The folks at the Apple Store (despite their valiant efforts) weren't able to help me. They suggested, if I recall correctly, that I go through the Apple Store app on my iPhone and access support that way. I'm sorry I don't remember more. It was a year ago. I was, however, able to get through. I think I chose something about a problem with the order.

Try selecting the option to have them call you back. Try the Apple Support app. Try choosing a different problem.

I tried calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. It was automated and it texted me a link to my own Apple account to see my trade-in status...which I've already seen. So that didn't help. I seem to be going in circles trying to find a way to contact them. I just want to send them the photos and ask them to remove the screen protector. I know it's in perfect condition underneath.
