Can't get Safari to launch on my iMac

I have Safari Version 15.6.1 on my iMac. I have Catalina 10.15.7 -- sometimes when I try to launch Safari, it won't open, or, it takes many minutes. And thoughts? TYIA

I understand Safari is taking an inordinately long time to launch.

Try this: press and hold a Shift key while launching Safari from Applications or the Dock.

  • That action opens Safari without any previously opened windows or tabs, which might be having trouble loading.

Release the Shift key when the Safari window opens.

If that doesn't help, please determine if the same problems occur in "Safe Mode": Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support. Then, restart normally and determine if the problems return. If they do you might be able to take some additional actions toward fixing the problem so write back for recommendations.

If that doesn't help, reinstalling macOS might be justified: How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support.

If that doesn't help, then contact Apple Support, here: Official Apple Support. They will probably want you to upgrade to the latest macOS version compatible with your Mac, so if you can, consider it: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support.
