Be aware that the Apple one-year warranty only covers manufacturing defects, not damage caused by the user. Regardless, you will need to have this charging cable examined by an Apple Technician. If they deem it to be a defect, you may find that you can get a replacement for little or no cost to you. Otherwise, be prepared to purchase a replacement at full cost to you.
