Is there a simple way of organizing the articles automatically on Pages?

Hello,

I would like to ask you to suggest a simple way of organizing the articles I write, automatically numbering chapters and subchapters.

I am copying an example:

1       Chapter (in blue color, 14 bold)

1.1      chapter ((in blue color, 12 bold)

1.1.1      chapter (in blue color, 11 bold)

(texte… 12 pts)

Thank you

Hi petroum,

I am not sure what you are trying to do, but a suggestion may help.

Select the text and Format > Bullets & Lists > Numbers > Tiered Numbers.

Use "soft" returns within each tier, and "hard" returns between each tier. Press tab to change the level of each tier.

Not exactly what you want, but it may get you started.

Now I am called to dinner. Maybe I will hear from you again.

Regards,

Ian .

Hello Ian.

You've understood very well and I thank you for that!

The hierarchical style I want is exactly what you present in the second link you sent me.

I just don't know how to do it.

Could you explain it to me step by step?

I don't understand the instructions for the hierarchical style given at https://support.apple.com/en-is/guide/pages/tan724896ee/mac.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Michael

Good morning Ian.

Thank you very much for your answer.

I attache the screen shot you asked for.

I don't understand you when you say: " Use "soft" returns within each tier, and "hard" returns between each tier. Press tab to change the level of each tier."

And finally, how do I get this style ready for the next time?

Thank you very much

M

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your screen shot. It looks as though each paragraph in that list is set with Format Panel (on the right) > Text > Spacing > Before Paragraph or After Paragraph.

Is this what you have?

Also, I copied and pasted your original post into pages. With Menu > View > Show Invisibles, there are non-breaking spaces (option spacebar). Better to use the tab key!

I tried this:

Select the whole list and do this:

Now use the tab key to indent (demote) each heading in the Tiered (hierarchical) list.

Hint: shift tab will promote a heading in that list.

Regards,

Ian.
