Some contacts on iPhone won’t back up to iCloud

When in “contacts” on my phone, I just accidentally clicked on “Lists” on the upper left corner. This page says:

All Contacts: 1,258

All iCloud: 1,137

All iPhone: 121

I went to my iCloud settings and it shows I have “Contacts” turned ON for backing up to iCloud.

What do I do about these 121 contacts that are apparently saved to my iPhone only? I want to make sure these are backed up to iCloud as well.

Just FYI that in iCloud settings I did click “iCloud backup” (which is already on) but I went ahead and did a manual backup (“back up now”) and that didn’t change anything.

Only the contacts in the "iCloud" list are synchronized with iCloud. The ones in the "iPhone" list are not synchronized with iCloud but should be part of your iCloud backup. So you would be able to restore them.

If you want to avoid confusion, you could move all the contacts in the "iPhone" list to the "iCloud" one: How to move contacts from a group to All … - Apple Community. Thus, all your contacts would be synchronized in iCloud and you could see them on iCloud.com or any other device synched to iCloud.
