Amber Alert Prevented My Alarm Clock from Sounding

During the night there was an Amber alert. It of course woke me up and I stopped the annoying sound by pressing some button on the phone (I don't know which since I was half asleep). My morning alarm clock did not trigger and I woke up very late for work because of it (2 hours late). There was still the Amber alert message when I checked my phone that morning and I think this is what stopped everything on my phone from working because when slid it away to the side a ton of notifications of my apps started scrolling on my screen (all the ones I had had been receiving since the alert). Basically, if you just stop the Amber alert sound and don't get rid of the alert message it blocks everything from working on the phone and even the alarm. Could that be fixed? At least let the alarms still work...
