Final Cut Pro X, when trying to export audio or video, stalls at a certain percentage and must be forced closed

Ever since FCPX 10.8, some projects are unable to be processed. I do a lot of audio splitting from files and then overlaying it with video and as I play it back, the sound will cut out. It's at this point that the video will stall out later when I try to export it.

I just switched to FCPX 10.8.1 and the same problem persists. This is devastating to me: I cannot process a video I've spent 3 weeks on.

Tom, I think I figured it out.

I have an adjustment layer that is causing it to mess up. I isolated the tiny section where it was having problems and removed that one adjustment layer, and now it seems to work.

The adjustment file is a file I created in apple motion. It's a trick where you can add things like color luts, color corrections etc. It allows you to place it over many cuts and then color everything below them. I can send the file, but it's really basic.

That is typical of a system that is having trouble playing back. Here's some basics to start with.

What are your Mac's specs?

In the mean time:

Turn off Background Rendering in the FCP Settings.

Delete all Render files via the File menu.

Verify your system drive has at least 15% of its total capacity left as free space.

Percentage = Drive Capacity / 6.67
