Minimized documents go to the left side of the desktop instead of the bottom

Usually when a document or file is minimized, it will float down to the dock and settle nicely in a small package inside at the bottom of the page. However, my documents and files are flying over to the left and sticking to the side of my desktop. They are very ornery and will only allow me to work on one at a time, so I cannot have two of them open at once. When I expanded and wanted to make spreadsheets and use the information on multiple Microsoft Word sheets as research info, it was very difficult, as they would fly back and forth to the side and front, as I had to choose one at a time, remember the information and send them back and typed the information that I wanted to report in my own words and other info added. How can I ""get the files to reacclimize to the bottom rather than the side"
