Mysterious ' com.apple.hiservices-xpcservice "Not Responding" ' Issue - Seeking Solutions and Experiences

The "com.apple.hiservices-xpcservice" process typically begins at 2.2 MB and increases to 3.5 MB in Activity Monitor, at which point it frequently becomes unresponsive. Searching online reveals that this mysterious issue has been discussed for years without any resolution. If anyone has insights, could you please share them? Why do you think this process has been unresponsive for sooo long? And why hasn’t any action been taken to address it?

Thanks

There's no significant 3rd party system modification software listed in your report.

It could be that Microsoft apps, which are unique in many ways, aren't playing nicely with some of the new features in macOS Sonoma.

This could also be just a buggy part of Sonoma. Apple has tried to port various keyboard-centric pop-up windows from iOS to the Mac. But on the Mac, these pop-ups seem very flaky. This specific pop-up is relatively new, so it is even more likely to be buggy.

Try the instructions posted here: https://www.macobserver.com/mac/cursoruiviewservice-lag-fix/

This is totally a hack and may stop working at any point in the future, or may not work at all. Such is the nature of hacks. But in this case, it seems likely to fix the problem.

Which of the two " com.apple.hiservices-xpcservice" , are you referencing ?

There is one process which is Root Level and the other User Level

User Level process is using 2.4 MB and pretty well stays at that level

Upon inspection, it showing >>

The reason why this process is unresponsive is still being investigated by engineers, and I believe the two are connected. The only thing I can tell you for certain is that this problem is most definitely not being investigated by engineers. It's your problem to solve.

The cause is most likely the same was what I mentioned before, some 3rd party system modification software. Those kinds of apps are extremely popular. This tech support forum would be a ghost town these kinds of apps didn't exist.

To cut to the case.

The System Modifications would show up in a respected Contributors' and Developers' application

Download the Application Etrecheck ( External Link ) directly from the Developer.

The Application is Not a " Silver Bullet " but only a tool to examine the Hardware / Software used on this computer

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid for added features.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

Thank you! Can you definitely say that it doesn't indicate a hardware problem?

There is no indication of any hardware involvement for this process. It appears to be strictly related to mimicking traditional hardware indicators (like the caps lock button) and behaviour (like keyboard input) in a little pop-up window.

I've read in many forums that EtreCheck is considered malware or a trojan, or that people have been hacked after running it ??

Many forums? How many? Years ago, there was one guy here who started asking technical questions and quickly devolved into conspiracy theories. That kind of security paranoia was still relatively new back then, so I foolishly tried to allay his concerns. All I got for my effort was a rambling, nonsensical Google Sites page claiming I was a malware developer. This guy seems to have given up the fight, but his web page lives on.

And I also have an active cyberstalker who repeats those lies, often using said web page in his decades-long effort to recruit more dupes to his cause of catching the "bad guys" on the internet, a group consisting solely of myself and Mark Allan, the developer ClamXAV.

So that's two people. The second guy has dozens of accounts spread over the internet. Any post spouting nonsense about "security" while mentioning me, EtreCheck, Mark Allan, or ClamXAV is this cyberstalker. In terms of libel, he definitely punches above his weight.

I advise people not to believe what they read on the internet. It usually isn't true. A significant portion of what is true is simply bait posted by social media influencers to get a bigger audience for additional content that isn't true.

Are you noticing any specific problem? By that I mean, would you have noticed this unresponsiveness if you hadn't looked for it in Activity Monitor?

That level of memory usage is insignificant. There are too many possible explanations to count. If there is some problem, this is almost certainly a symptom. The most likely cause is some 3rd party system modification app.

Haha, you might be right, but right now, the only thing installed on the computer is Microsoft Edge. Interestingly, in the discussion I linked 5 minutes ago, they suggested doing a clean install without installing any Microsoft applications to resolve the issue, and I've been using the computer without any applications for a month now. What exactly do you mean by system modification applications? Is Outlook or Edge considered a system modification software?

Most anything can be found to agree with or to shape an option one already holds

This can include that macOS Needs to run a Third Party Security Software

People use the term " Hacked " to freely and often have very little knowledge of what is involved on trying to " Hack " macOS
