How can I recover password on my locked MacBook Air?

I am trying to log into my MacBook and my password keeps saying it’s incorrect and I can’t use my fingerprint how do I recover

you can try the steps in If you forgot your Mac login password - Apple Support.

and then maybe If you can't reset your Mac login password - Apple Support.
