iTunes will not covert music from external CD drive on Mac mini

Hello, I have an M1 Mac mini running Sonoma 14.6.1.

I’m not sure when, but lately, when trying to rip CD’s I currently own, it always says:

“Error occurred while converting the file. An unknown error occurred (-54).”

The cd drive is an ASUS SDRW-08U9M-U. I can read the files and can actually play the music. It just won’t rip to iTunes. I have also tried with error correction on, then tried with it off. It is also worth noting the CD drive worked on my MacBook Pro (Unfortunately now sold…) I have tried ripping from another drive(which works on another PC) but still gives me the same error.

I have copied the music file to a folder on the Mac mini so know it can access and transfer the files across without iTunes, but how then do I convert to MP3 or m4a etc

I have even tried ripping cd's I have already ripped but still won't work.

Anyone have any ideas?
