alias and save with name always bring to macintosh hd instead to folder path

Hello,

alias and save with name always open the window of macintosh hd, than I've to go further in the path to the desired folder.

I just did the migration from iMac 21.5 to iMac 24 sonoma. alias don't work on the new iMac 24. Both old alias (migrated from the old iMac 21.5) and new created alias don't work. The same with Save with name (word and excel) bring me far away from the origin folder of the file.

I installed twice the new iMac 24 and the error occur again. First time a migrate the whole iMac 21.5 from the beginning of the installing. Than I was disappointed and I initialised. The second time I installed first OS on the new iMac 24, than i migrated data, system, app and other from iMac 21.5. I cancelled the new USER from the iMac 24 and i kept the old user... the whole process took a lot of time. But no changes. Alias and save with name take to macintosh hd again.

Should I migrate data, app and other but not system?

Thank you a lot,

Jarno

Your second problem I have seen posted here before, but could not find a similar post (I never can find anything, here). I don't remember being able to replicate the problem nor do I remember if there was a solution. My guess is the two problems are somehow related.

My only guess at this point is try the new voodoo, start up in Safe Mode to clear system caches, then restart normally.

Hello Leroydouglas,

thank you for your suggestion.

I tried the same experiment like you did. I created a new folder on the desktop and than his alias. The ALIAS of a folder from the DESKTOP is working fine! When I click on it, the new created folder get opened.

After that I choosed an alias of a folder in Documents. All alias from Documents did not work. I opened the infos from the alias and from the original folder, like you did from the folder on the desktop. I checked the path and it is the same like in your screenshot. There is just one different:

folder gives: Macintosh HD . Utenti . ... . Documenti . ...

alias gives: Users/.../Documents/...

The difference is in the language terms.

After this I selected the option Select New Original ... to be sure the path is correct.

I selected the new original looking in the folders.

The alias still don't work. When I click on the alias, the folder that will be opened is Macintosh HD and not the original folder, that is located in Macintosh HD/Users/.../Documents/...

Using word and Excel.

Something similar occurs after I'm working on a word or excel document from a folder located in Macintosh HD/Users/.../Documents/... When I want to save it with a different name I click on File and choose "Save with name". The window that open up, allowing to save the documents, don't give me the original position of the file with his folder path. Instead it gives always to me the position "Macintosh HD".

Furthermore in the windows to save the file there are three lines:

1st line: name of the file

2nd line: tag

3rd line: on my old iMac 21.5 i could choose the path from this curtain (?). Now on my new iMac 24 I see more paths but when I select one of those and click on it, the system put automatically on "Macintosh HD".

However I have the possibility to save the file in the correct folder selecting step by step the folder and subfolders in the columns.

Any help is welcome. Thanks a lot
