I just resurfaced my trusty iPod Nano, and want to bring it back to life and start using it regularly.
How can I transfer MP3 files to the IPod from my Macbook Pro?
I can put some files on the IPod, but the player does not recognize them.

You cannot add anything from Apple Music to an iPod nano.
You can add music that you own (and have in your library) by using Finder. However, as far as I know, if you have Apple Music turned on that will prevent you from adding your own music to that model of iPod. (Apple Music requires that the iPod can connect to the internet.)

That would explain a lot.
It is 3rd gen, has no internet connection, and I do have Apple Music on (as I did not know that it could be switched off)
Is there a way just to put MP3 on the iPod in a way the iPod is able to play them?
Well actually, rather than "turn off" Apple Music, you need to end your Apple Music subscription, even if you're still in the trial period.
As far as I know, it's not possible to use one Apple account to subscribe to Apple Music as well as managing an iPod that cannot use Apple Music.

I did find the iPod Nano already and was able to put files on it.
Syncing music did not work, so I guess I have an Apple Music or library (I have MP3s on the SDD in my Macbook) problem.
