I noticed on web search engines and even on some Apple community pages regarding Apple keyboard shortcuts that there is no information on how to insert a link into a document using a shortcut. So I am answering my own question to provide more support for fellow MacBook users. To insert a link using a keyboard shortcut use command K

copy your link, you can then insert it in a document or wherever you can use command V to insert it. Then type command K and insert paste the link in the window and hit enter and then the link is active in the document or where you insert it.
what? how does that work?
how do you specify what link to paste? where are you pasting the link?
what exactly do you do, step by step, to make this work?
