Why is TeX-Maker no longer supported on macOS?

Suddenly my MacBookPro says that it doesn't support TeX-Maker anymore when I tried to re-install it. WHAT? I have been using it for about 15 years, like millions of LaTeX-users, and can use it almost blindfoldedly. Now, like a nasty bolt from the blue, Apple refuses "to support it"?

(WHY on Earth is Apple doing this to the people who spend big money to buy their products? I am truly flabbergasted and furious.)

For assistance with the third-party Texmaker app on macOS 11.7, first check for updates for macOS itself (as macOS 11.7.x is getting old) and also check for updates for Texmaker (with 6.0.0 made available ~15 days ago), confirm the dependencies on Qt and MacTeX are updated to the appropriate versions as well, and then contact the Texmaker app vendor support folks:

If you just somehow got the Texmaker 6.0.0 update, maybe that broke something in the local configuration?

The last Apple update for macOS 11 is just shy of a year old with macOS 11.7.10, so any Apple changes probably aren’t involved in whatever happened with this third-party app.

I’m unclear about specific Texmaker dependencies having looked around on the Texmaker website as well, but — for various tasks — Qt 6 or later does appear to be a requirement.

Im also unsure where to ask for help with the Texmaker app.

…I see some Texmaker-related questions on the TeX stack overflow: https://tex.stackexchange.com/

…and the app vendor occasionally uses bsky: https://bsky.app/profile/texmaker.bsky.social

Here in the Apple communities have little Texmaker-related traffic.

As an alternative, Texmaker was forked into what is now known as TeXstudio a while back, and the TeXstudio fork might provide an alternative to Texmaker, if you and the folks from Texmaker (and Qt and MacTeX) can’t resolve the Texmaker issues. TeXstudio has discussions, docs, issues, and bug reports all available at GitHub.

It's fixed !

https://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/texmakermac.html

Even if you see a message displaying that "texmaker.app is damaged and can't be opened", it's not the case.

The package is not damaged (and there is no malware or viruses into it) : it's only Apple wich does everything to discourage users to install applications outside the appstore (and to force developers to pay to be certified).

To fix the problem, you can use this command (by replacing "/path/to" by the real path to texmaker.app):

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/texmaker.app

or

sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/texmaker.app

Non-notarized apps won’t work on current Mac Apple silicon hardware with macOS 11 and later. The app user will have to sign the app locally using an ad-hoc signature before it’ll run. Older macOS versions and Intel Macs are not affected by these particular requirements.

Might want to suggest that the Texmaker website cover these and related details too, lest somebody get confused about the messages and the notarization-related requirements.

Just a footnote to your post… The current TeXstudio download page offers support in v4.8.2 for Big Sur 11.* or later, or Apple Silicon M1 or later with Sonoma 14.*.

I found it easier to find the usually-necessary app-related details from the TeXstudio website than from the Texmaker website. There were other details which would lead me toward TeXstudio selection, as well.

Why is TeX-Maker no longer supported on macOS?
