why were there 5 macbook air models with the same model id

the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017 macbook airs all have the same model number (a1466) why did apple do that. were there any hardware updates to it because they were given a different year for name, what did apple do.

Given me old MacBook Pro 13' Model instead of New Model Back in April, 2019; I was totally new to Apple Product and brought MacBook Pro 13' on 23rd April, 2019 from Apple Store at Bangkok which I assumed that they gave me the latest model (latest model supposed to be 2018 model then). All we can say is "because that's how Apple decided to label things". There were, I believe, five generation of the MacBook Air with that number, all with different specs. You can see the differences here:
