Export error in FCP when trying export a new project

So every time I create a video on FCP, I have no issue exporting the main clip in 4K

Issues always occur when I create a new project and copy some parts of the media from the previous project and turn it into reels/shorts format

I tried deleting/replacing sections of the error frame but the issue is not solved.

not sure if its about certain settings or what not

Hi Tom,

Yes, I am working with vertical video, here's the complete spec:

  • Original media: filmed with 4K with 60 fps
  • Main project: 4K (3840 x 2160) at 60 fps
  • Side project (the problematic one): vertical (1080 x 1920) at 60 fps

My laptop: Macbook Pro Nov 2023 (M3), iOS Sonoma, 8 gb RAM

Here's the detail of how I usually complete my projects:

  • I start with my main project (4K resolution) for my youtube channel >> these ones are usually fine when exported
  • Once finish my main project, I create a new project with vertical resolution
  • Then I copy parts of my main project, and paste it in the new project >> then I edit the media to fit the screen (usually 200% scale)
  • Then I make some minor adjustment for my side project (usually around 1 minute long)
  • Then I export the video in H.264 file

This is when the issue usually occurs... and it happens every time I create vertical videos >> this never happens with my standard 4K video despite the file being much larger

Thanks a lot in advance for your help

The error message is very explicit - it mentions an error in a specific file at a specific time.

Try deleting all render files.

If it still does not export, try to edit around that area.

Note: please use command-shift-4 and drag to take a screenshot. No need to use your phone, the screenshot is saved to your desktop by default. And our necks thank you 😎

thanks Luis, but this problem persists in all my projects

whenever I launch a new video, I create a new library with multiple projects. I usually start with my main youtube clip before proceeding to shorts/reels. This issue occurs every time when i start my new project to make reels/shorts.

I tried deleting render files and also fix specific frames, but does not solve.

sometimes it requires brute force for me to keep exporting until it works… which is very annoying

It’sa decode problem. What’s the codec you’re working with? Some codecs don’t scale well, some better than others, some computers do some things better than others. What’s the computer! What do you see at the point of the defect the process can’t decode? It’s a decode problem. What’s the codec you’re working with? Some codecs don’t scale well, some better than others.
