How to Control Headphone Settings on macOS?

I noticed that the operating system MacOS does not have the ability to control external sources such as headphones. I found a paid program Sound Source. Does such a perfect system really have such limited functionality? For me, a user who recently switched from Win11 this is a scandal. Or maybe I'm wrong and there is such a possibility in the operating system for free.

What kind of control are you looking for exactly?

Headphones are not audio sources, they don't generate audio themselves, they are audio outputs they receive audio signals from the computer, unless they have an attached Microphone in which case that could be considered an audio source or input.

You can control most headphones volume and balance from the Settings App, under Sound ➜ Input and Output.

As well as the microphone levels.

The general volume control on the menu bar in macOs will also control the headphone volume when headphones are attached.

" if your headphones have no volume controls, then the volume should be controllable on the mac's end. "

" I have two pairs of headphones that are used depending on what I want to listen to. on one pair, I can control the volume with either the Mac, or the headphones. the other can only be controlled using the mac's volume controls "
