email that only contains a subject and no body is not displayed in ios mail

I regularly have a contact who sends me email by just putting the content in the subject line of the email rather than in the message body, The emails never appear on my iPhone in the mail app, yet are visible in webmail.

for example i may get an email with the subject, 'see you tomorrow at 2.00' and they write nothing in the message body, and very often i miss these emails due to this ios bug.

Why does ios not show these email that have empty body content. But when i log into gmail there they are.

This is not universally true.

I tried with two different accounts on my phone (one @iCloud address, and one gmail-based).

In both cases, the message appeared in their respective accounts with the subject and - indicidentally - a preview that stated 'This message has no content'.

That latter point means Apple specifically went out of their way to program Mail.app to handle messages with no content.

As a result I have to think it's either something with your specific mail client setup, or it's something that's getting flagged at the server side such as spam filtering (although you say the messages display properly in webmail, so it may not be the case).
