How to permanently turn off double-sided printing Sonoma 14.6?

There have been several suggestions to accomplish this via using terminal and CUPS. But this method just does not work. Just a guess, this worked in earlier versions of Mac OS, but now, this step-by-step process simply is effectual.

The only way to turn off double-sided printing is to make sure, every single time you print, to check the printer dialog box where you will find the default is always set to double-sided printing. If you forget to change it in the dialog box, tough s**t. If it's a multi-page document, you can find a way to interrupt printing, but you're going to end up with a lot of wasted paper and ink.

Does anyone have a solution to this irritating setting that actually works? Is there a way to permanently turn off double-sided printing on a Macintosh? Thanks for any and all help.

The Mac is responding to what the printer tells it it's capable of, so ultimately its your printer that's saying it can print double sided, hence the option is always going to be available (unless you switch to a printer that doesn't support two-sided printing...?)

That said, my printer (an HP OfficeJet) supports double-sided printing, but is off by default, but I guess each printer is different.

To that end, MacOS does support printer profiles, where you setup your preferred setup (page size, orientation, scaling, etc.) and you save that. You can save a profile that prints one sided and use that as your default (or, more specifically, set MacOS to use 'Last Used Settings', which means the setting will stick until you change it.
