Will I be charged for missing AirPod during replacement?

I ordered a replacement for a missing AirPod. Will I get charged for not turning in an AirPod that I don’t have?

Review the Service Page where it does make it clear you will have to buy the replacement.

Did you lose an AirPod or your Charging Case? You can buy a replacement for a left or right AirPod or the Charging Case. Your replacement will be new.

AppleCare+ for Headphones does not cover lost or stolen AirPods.

You can use the Cost Estimate tool to see what that charge may be depending on the model of your AirPod. Typically they are about $89 for a lost AirPod.

Oh i already purchased my replacement. I was wondering if I will be charged a fee because I can’t return the original. It is stated in my order summary that I ordered a replacement for a lost airpod but the Apple Support tracking site says it is “waiting to receive the original part”

Obviously, if you are replacing a lost part, you have nothing to return. You will be charged for the replacement.

It's possible that Apple uses the same process for ordering a replacement for a lost item as they do for ordering a replacement for a non-working item. However, I would contact Apple Support for future clarification.
