Apple Health and VO2 max rating discrepancy

Apple Watch Ultra 2 running watchOS 10.6.1

I’m 56 yo and Apple Health reports a VO2 max of 32.2. The app also says that people aged 50-59 should fall between VO2 max ratings of 26 and 33, so I’m near the top of the range it expects me to be.

Yet it says my cardio fitness is below average.

Shouldnt I be average, or even above average for my age?

I’m not questioning the validity of the reading, just why the cardio fitness says below average when elsewhere it says I’m within expected values for my age.

Looking at my stats, you will have to reach at least VO2 max 33.1, to be above average in the VO2 graph in the Health App. You can tap on the " i " behind the Cardiofitness data the to bring up this graph:

Bellow average:

Above average:

But I hope that Apple will fine tune this feature in the upcoming watchOS.

After my latest birthday I changed into the next group and my VO2max dropped almost 4 points within a week for no reason. Took me almost a year to get 3 points back, since I prefer cycling over running and walking outdoors to measure VO2.
