SSDs fail to mount on Mac OS but mount fine on iPad
This problem has happened 3 times now in just the same way. For context I do a lot of video editing and use a lot of 2 and 4 TB SSDs on my M1 MBP and M2 Mac Studio.
I connected my Crucial x10 4TB ssd, formatted APFS (Case-sensitive) to my MPB... I noticed it didn't mount. My other 4TB x10 mounted fine. Switched the cables, cable is fine, works with other drive. Open Disk Utility and run First Aid:
I said this has happened 3x. 1st time I had all data fresh in my HDDs and I just took the drive back to the store and exchanged it. I don't mess around with drives that give me issues. The second time it happened about a week later I was more suspicious, and had a few hours of editing saved to the drive, so I wanted to look to see if there was any data showing up on the drive... won't mount on other macs, but did mount find on my iPad Mini. So I used a dongle and copied the data to another SSD. I reformatted the drive, but the same thing happened a couple days later... Copied the data off and took the drive back again to exchange it.
Now it's been about 3-4 weeks, and it has happened again. Drive won't mount, but mounts and works without issue on my iPad Mini.
I feel there may be some way to fix this when it happens, given the data is still there. I've searched for a couple hours and usually can find solutions to tech problems quickly on the web, but this one is really stumping me.
Please help!
BTW this problem may have happen 1 other time before with a SanDisk 4TB ssd about 2 months before all this started. Similar issue, but I didn't mess around given the current news about SanDish 4TB ssds, so I just took it to the store and exchanged it for the Crucial drive I have now. I have various 2 TB and 1 TB ssds that have never given me an issue, and that first Crucial 4TB ssd has been solid. (Can it be a bad drive when they mount and work fine on the iPad???, seems unlikely.)
