To repeat what MrHoffman said, you cannot turn on the Find My feature remotely.

You need to have Find My turned on before your iPhone is lost or stolen to be able to mark it as Lost, to ask it to play a sound, or to ask it to Erase itself.

If your phone has Find My turned off, your other options would be:

  • To walk around to places where you think you might have left it, and search for it
  • To call your misplaced iPhone from another phone, and hope that you hear the misplaced phone "ringing"

That assumes that your iPhone is simply misplaced, not stolen. If it was stolen, it's gone.

No power? No radio communications.

No radio communications? No Find My.

No Find My, no remote position.

iPhone 8 does not have the “always on” low-powered mode that is available on newer iPhone models. And that “always-on mode still requires (a little bit of) power, and still requires (short range) radio comms.

Within Find My, lost devices without power or without comms or other impediments to locating will show their last position within roughly 24 hours.

OP does have Find My enabled on the lost and apparently battery-depleted or out-of-comms iPhone 8. (OP was incorrect about that part of their statement, and probably meant they were unable to use it in this case. The missing iPhone 8 would not show at all in Find My, if that were actually disabled.)

Very long shot: If “Hey Siri” is enabled on the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 is somehow out of communications range (no cellular and no Wi-Fi) but otherwise working, calling out ‘Hey Siri, where’s my iPhone” might work. That won’t work if “Hey Siri” is disabled, or if the battery is depleted, or no comms, or some other issues blocking Find My.
