Silver Alerts vs. AMBER Alerts

I received a Silver Alert this evening on my iPhone. I thought I had turned the AMBER Alert notifications OFF. When I checked the Notification settings, AMBER was in fact OFF, so I'm surprised it came through.

Are Silver Alerts treated differently than AMBER Alerts? (I don't necessarily want to turn Emergency Alerts OFF, too.)

Apparently so.

As it happens, I don't see anything about "Government Alerts" in my Settings > Notifications.

It may be that in Canada I cannot turn them off.

In About emergency and government alerts on iPhone - Apple Support (CA) it says:

3. Government Alerts are supported when using a SIM card from a supported carrier. For more information, contact your carrier.

4. In some countries or regions, you may not be able to turn off Government Alerts.

So maybe my Location Services settings somehow hides these options in iOS.

I say "hide" because if I search for "government" in the Settings search bar it takes me to Settings > Notifications, yet they are not there.

I say "in iOS" because on my Android phone, they (toggles for five different types of alerts) do appear in the Settings, and I remember getting some Amber alerts on it in the past.

Later...

I found this - The CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) says this:

Can I opt-out of receiving alerts?

No. Given the importance of warning the Canadian public of imminent threats to the safety of life and property, it is not possible to opt out of receiving alerts.

The CRTC requires service providers to distribute alerts to all compatible cellphones connected to an LTE or newer network in the area covered by the alert.

Depending on your phone, you may be able to choose how it alerts you. For example, you may be able to adjust the alarm by placing your phone on the lowest volume setting, placing your phone in “Do Not Disturb“ or “Silent Mode,” or by setting your device to vibrate.

So that probably explains why I see it on the Android phone but not the iPhone. On the Android phone I see separate switches for "AMBER Alerts" and "Public Safety Alerts" which probably includes the "Vulnerable Persons Alerts", aka "Silver Alerts". Also three others.

Perhaps on your phone (or in your region?) the "Silver Alerts" are lumped in with one of the other types of alerts.

Does your iPhoner have a log of received alerts? My Android phone does, but not the iPhone.
