HP color laser jet m252dw no longer connected after MacBook updated to Monterey OS.

My MacBook will no longer connect via air print to my HP color laser jet m252dw after the OS was updated to Monterey. All my other apple devices are able to print to the printer fine. My older MacBooks and my iPhone etc… I’ve tried turning all systems off (router, computer and printer) and rebooting one by one. But when I try to add the printer on my MacBook it doesn’t give the airport option and says it cannot connect. This is very annoying.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

The HP Color LaserJet m252dw is compatible with Apple's AirPrint when configured to use a wireless or wired network connection. However, even if you have it configured for network connection, if you also have a USB cable connected to it, that will block the reinstallation in the Printers & Scanners panel. Remove the USB cable if that is the issue. The device also needs to be on the same wireless SSID, or Ethernet segment as your MacBook Pro.

Power on your HP printer and ensure it has a network connection. Then…

If there is an entry for this printer in your Printers & Scanners panel, then right-click on it to choose Reset printing system… and click the Reset button on the following dialog. That will clear the printer listing where you now click the [+] symbol to add the HP device back. You should see this panel that will instead, show your HP printer:

Click once on the line containing the printer name and it will then activate the Use selector, either with Auto Select or the name of your printer. Then you just click the Add button to re-populate the Printers panel. Right-click on the entry there and select Set default printer. Test print something.

You can confirm your toner level on the Options & Supplies… > Supply Levels panel.

Thanks. I have already tried all of that. The problem is when I try to add the printer back, the Use box no longer populates with an AirPrint option but only the HP driver option (I do not have it connected via usb, I never used the usb connection to print before, only AirPrint). So when I go to add the printer a box pops up saying my Mac cannot connect to the printer.

In desperation I have tried to restore my computer to my time machine back up putting back onto the prior OS based on what some other forums suggested after others had this same issue.

However now my computer is stalled out saying “preparing to restore…” any thoughts on this issue?

Sometimes, the Use selector on the add panel will not say "AirPrint Select" but the actual name of the printer, and still configures it for AirPrint. That can be deceptive. If you are attempting to restore Macintosh HD from a Time Machine backup while still booted into Monterey, you will be entering the twilight zone of operating system corruption. You would only perform a restore from Time Machine backup while booted into Recovery mode (⌘R), and I don't believe even that will solve this issue.
