Just recently started using iMac 24 migrating from a MacBook. Do not need the start up password, but cannot find the wording on searches to do this. Is this now called firmware security. Just need one thing: remove the password.

yes, you can't do that with file vault is active. you will either need to use your password, or turn off FileVault. if you have a need for FileVault, I do not recommend turning it off just for the convenience of logging in automatically.
use Apple Menu > System Settings > Users & Groups and set "Automatically log in as" to the account you want to login to automatically.
Did you set a Firmware PW or Encrypt the Disk???
Or do you just want it to auto login to your user?

Filevault state, open Terminal & paste these in & press enter…

migrated from MacBook Pro and we used the same on the iMac. The Apple tech and I did not encrypt.
FileVault is encryption.:)
I did this and my new iMac is still asking me for a password when I turn it on
