All my exported projects have a blank, black screen as the preview. How can I export video projects that have a meaningful preview so that when shared on my website or social media people aren't staring at a blank, black screen?

Here's a guide from Larry Jordan on how to set the poster frame with Compressor. Basically passing it through Compressor without re-encoding while adding a poster frame.

Final Cut Pro does not offer the possibility of selecting a poster frame, alas. I feel that it should be there, but it isn't.
If you have Compressor, you can select a poster frame.
(In macOS Finder, you can assign a custom icon to a file, but that is of no use if the file is uploaded to your website.)
Thanks Luis. What a profoundly terrible missing feature. Come on Apple! Compressor looks like my add-on that will enable this functionality. Do you use it?
Before I posted this question I tried the custom icon for the file in the Mac OS Finder to which you allude and yes, to no avail.
Nobody from Apple engineering here. Use feedback to make a feature request.
Yeah. I knew that. It was more a BIG belly ache than anything. Leaving this feature out is inexcusable.
