Why am I seeing "Not Authorized" in iTunes?

trying to download previous (years older) itunes music and says "not authorized to play this music on this computer. would you like to authorize?" so i go to itunes account and this computer is authorized. a window comes up saying this was previously authorized and is authorized again, but then when i try to play the same process starts over again. one answer here says perhaps because password different from original signin?? which is true.????
