Without knowing more details, it's pretty difficult to offer suggestions. What app(s) are you trying to use to view and edit this PDF? And did it come with that yellow box when you obtained the PDF, or did that get added later (and if so, what were you using and doing that added it)?
A docx file would be a Microsoft Word document. If you have Word, open the document with that and see if the yellow box and text appear. If they do, you should be able to edit it there. If you don't have Word, Pages should open it.
If you don't have the original document, or you open it and the yellow box doesn't appear, it may be an annotation added in Preview. If so, Preview should allow you to select the box or the text and edit.
BTW, you can take screen shots on your Mac by pressing Command-Shift-4 (to be able to select a part of the screen). Then you can add images to posts here by clicking the Image Insertion icon which you'll see at the bottom of the text window when you're creating a post. If you need to resize the image, you can click on it and you'll get drag handles. Please don't make an image too large or it makes a thread difficult to read.
Hope this helps.
If you selected markup and applied a Note (yellow box), or a Shape with yellow fill, then you can remove these from the Preview Inspector (⌘i). Once you have the Inspector panel open, you will see a pencil tool on the right-hand side of that Inspector toolbar. When you click that, all annotations in the PDF will be shown in the order they have been applied and their page number. Select that yellow box entry and press backspace to remove it and it will be gone in the PDF.
I had a docx already on my computer & I saved it as a pdf. I don't know where the yellow box came from. I don't know anything about apps and wasn't using one. The yellow box has an incorrect spelling in it, and I need to fix that or get rid of the box. I wish I knew how to send a pic of it to you. It's important to correct this because I need to send a copy to relatives.
Thank you.
Thank you for trying to help. I can't get the pdf back to the docx file that I used to have. I don't know where the docx file went. I can't get the yellow box gone. I guess I just messed it all up royally, and it is going to stay as it is. Now all his relatives know I don't know how to spell pasties! Oh well!
Thanks again.
I'm beginning to think it isn't all me - I think my computer has some kind of bug, or just old age, that keeps me from doing some of the things that are being suggested. When I check on the internet for instructions for some of my questions, the answers don't fit the things available on my computer at all. A certain location will be mentioned to go to on my computer, and my computer doesn't have such a place on it to go to.
Thank you for trying to help. I guess that word being spelled wrong is just going to stay that way.
Things on the Internet have dates on them and if you are reading a post from 2013 that tells you to do something that is not remotely applicable to macOS Monterey, then of course it will not work. Pay attention to what is suggested here, not by searching the Internet.
Did you try what I suggested? A yellow box in Preview can be a yellow-filled shape, or a Note, either of which will appear in the Preview Inspector's list of annotations that I suggested.
