My built in / default mic in my new Mac mini m2 was working fine until last week when suddenly I could not speak to colleagues in slack / teams calls. I tried restarting after long press Power button which takes me to recovery mode (is that also safe mode?) after Apple chat support suggested to do so but no joy. Any clue will be helpful, my OS is updated. Please note the speakers / Audio output is working fine.

What changed on the computer from before this issue presented ?

as already explained by PRP_53, a Mac mini does not have a built-in mic. any chance that the monitor you are using with the mini has a mic?

I have the exact same Mac Mini M2
Let be assure you, there might be a builtin microphone on an attached Monitor as @jefferythefrog mentioned
But build into the Computer - Nope
All current Mac Minis are headless, keyboard-less and Mouse- less, microphone-less
The do have builtin speakers and the ability to use mice, keyboards and microphones , cameras
Thought the last 4 devices must be supplied by the user as External Devices
No external mic ever used.
Nothing changed.
