How can I stop fake virus warnings on my Safari using Mac?

I am plagued with the same fake virus warnings popping up every few seconds that others have reported. All the advice I read says to go to Safari > Settings and proceed from there, but under Safari, I cannot find any Settings tab anywhere. Is there any other way to resolve this annoyance. I'm using a MacBook Pro 2021 with OS Monterey 12.5.
