Why do I need to be 22 in order to use the apple watch ECG?

I purchased a series 6 a few years back and wasn't able to use the ECG, decided to get the SE instead since there is no point in spending that much if I can't use all the features. Now I am turning 21 this month and I'd like to take full advantage of the higher-end apple watches finally. Considering a new one is about to drop, but no... I need to be 22. What is the reason for this, and if I do purchase it will it not be accurate?

While we can't say with certainty why Apple says that, my assumption is that their hardware and algorhythms are not calibrated sufficiently for people under that age. So at your age the results may well not be accurate. Note that an Apple Watch is not a medically certified device. It can provide some general information and trends, but it cannot reliably diagnose any heart conditions. As you may have seen in their official Instructions for Use:

The ECG data displayed by the ECG app is intended for informational use only. The user is not intended to interpret or take clinical action based on the device output without consultation of a qualified healthcare professional. The ECG waveform is meant to supplement rhythm classification for the purposes of discriminating AFib from sinus rhythm and is not intended to replace traditional methods of diagnosis or treatment.

So it's up to you.

Regards.
