No phone icon on iTunes

I pull up iTunes I connect my phone so I can update. I don’t show the little phone icon on the iTunes screen. I’m operating on a Mac version 10.11.6 OS X El Capitan.

About a month ago, I was able to see the phone icon. What could have happened?

Will the program called TouchCopy Solve my back up problem? It says it can copy anything off my phone onto my computer. Thank you for your response.

If I recall correctly, TouchCopy has some sort of free trial. If they still do, you should take advantage of that to see if it meets your needs. You should also contact TouchCopy support for more information on how the specific features of the application work.

Newer iPhones won’t be detected by older Mac with older operating systems , you must have a Mac with macOS Catalina or later but there is not iTunes because you have to use finder

This is entirely incorrect.

Older Macs can and will connect to newer iPhones through iTunes.

I can connect my iphone 15 Pro Max running iOS 17 to a Mac Mini running 10.13.6 High Sierra, and even to my much older 2007 iMac running 10.10 Yosemite just fine.
