Unable to initialise a blank DVD-r on iMac

Hello Support

I am running Monterey V12.7.6 on my iMac.

I am using an external apple optical drive attached to my computer via USB cable.

I am trying to initialize a DVD-r but disk utility will not give me the option to erase / format this disc.

Is there another way please?

They come formatted, if you were to erase you would not be able to Write to it anymore. When you insert a blank disc it should put a Blank DVd 0r CD icon the the Desktop, you then drag fioes to it, when you ave ddroped them on that icon, eject the Cisc for it to Write to it & close it for any furher Writing,
