Why is my screen share icon still active after a meeting?

kill and restart the menu bar from the Terminal.

Step 1: open Terminal.app

Step 2: copy & paste the following command and press enter\return to continue

killall -KILL SystemUIServer

If you click on the menu icon, does it show you who is still connected?
