Eject notification on external drive

I keep getting a notification when I wakeup my MacBook that an external drive was not ejected properly. I did not issue an eject command and I want the drive to be attached permanently until I decide to eject it.

What could be causing this and can I correct it?

A pop up in the corner of the computer says "disk not ejected properly" (BUT I DIDNT EJECT IT!) Problem persisted before the OS update too. Problem persists on multiple external hard drives so i dont think its a problem with the cable.

Hi,

I was also sometimes suffered from external drive was ejected properly issue, though it disappeared after update macOS Sonoma 14.6.1.

I'm on 14.6.1 and I still see it from time to time. 😡
