iPad Mail not deleting from server

Does anyone else have this problem? I have my mail accounts set so that they should delete emails from the server as soon as they are deleted from ipad. It doesn't seem to work though.. as I just came back home after a trip and all the dozens of email messages came flooding into my Mac inbox 😟

Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I also need to delete the mail on the ipad's mail trash perhaps...

macbook and iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I have the same problem and would like to know the answer too. I'm synching with a Hotmail account. I would also like to know how to bring in the folders I have created in Hotmail. Is it possible to create new folders for email?

I have the exact same problem with Hotmail. Cannot delete, folders and address book have not been brought over. Could someone please direct me to the solution. I am new to Apple Discussions.

go to Settings
Mail, Contacts, Calendar
tap the email account on the list
go to Advanced Settings
tap "Deleted Mailbox'
select 'Trash' (yes it's already checked but select it again)

This should fix the problem.

Thanks for your response.

The Settings screen for my Hotmail account does not have a Mailbox Behaviors - Deleted Mailbox Option, like it does for my Yahoo account. The Hotmail Advanced screen has a Deleted Messages option (ie. After One Day or Week or Month. There is no place where to designate what folder is for Deleted Messages.

SO SORRY for not responding.... For some reason I have not been getting emails saying there are replies to this topic.

As it happened, I thought I had solved the problem, but I haven't...

In the settings for my email accounts, I am offered the option of my emails being deleted from their server as soon as I delete them from the iPad email inbox. However, when I choose this option, they are not deleted.

DAVID I do not have the setting that you describe available for my email accounts either... It seems that different setting options appear according to the nature of the email account that is being set up.

It is clear to me that the way I have set things up is correct for what I want though, as it's very clearly stated in Settings... It's just not happening....

I'm having the same issue here.

Mail on 10.5.8 and 10.6.4, historically it removed the mail from the SERVER when I deleted it from the inbox AND emptied the trash. Now, it no longer deletes it from the server.

Same issue with iphone, 4.x. Using pop account emails account, it NO LONGER is deleting it from the server when deleted and the trash is emptied. I don't know why, but it doesn't.

this is VERY annoying, since it means one has to go to all the server sites, and delete mail there or it just piles up.

Anyone have ANY fix for this

I'm having the same issue with my rcn account. Emails deleted from the ipad are not deleted from the server despite the advance settings being set up to remove from server. I have no issues with my gmail account. anyone figure this out yet.

I have three POP3 mailboxes and could never delete messages on their server whilst I had my iPhone and iPhone set for POP3.

When I upgraded to iOS4 they were automatically altered to IMAP on both devices and now I can do my deletions.

I simply cannot believe there isn't a fix for this. Either the iOs updates r sending an incorrect setting or message to the servers, or the message that is being sent during SETUP is incorrect and somehow persisting at the server level. It really s..ks that nobody at apple or anywhere can fix this.

That is pretty unlikely as the three mailboxes I am using were set up a long time ago using a PC.
