Work Monitor for MacbookPro: Dell U2724DE or Dell U2723QE

Hello,

I'm new to this community and I would like to say hi to everyone and hope I can get some support to clarify a decision I have to make regarding an external monitor.

I'm working from home for a few days per week and I need to buy an external monitor that should work best with Apple MacBook Pro 16" M3 Pro laptop from work.

After some research I've ended up with 2 models from Dell:

    1. Dell U2723QE
    2. Dell U2724DE

Both seem great on paper and have their +/-.

The monitor will be used mainly for work, but I want to set it up so I can use my personal laptop also (the same MacBook model, just with the M3 Max, thus I want the monitor to have the following:

    • Good image/display quality (4k ideally, even with upscaling/downscalling; it can also be 2k (native) but I'm worried it is not as crisp as on 4k)
    • KVM integrated (for dual laptop usage)
    • Hub - I need to connect multiple devices to it and I would like to avoid getting separate hubs that are inestetic or they cost half the price of the monitor
    • Single monitor usage (for now it will be used as a single monitor, but would be great to support daisy chain for adding a second one in the future if needed - now using the work laptop on a stand)
    • At least 60Hz refresh rate (ideally 120Hz to match the laptop, but don't think there are many at least keeping the same budget)
    • Display can be glossy or matte (does not matter that much as it will be used in a somewhat darker office room and I don't have many reflections)
    • High pixel density (as it will be used with an MacBook Pro laptop side-by-side, at least for now, it would be good to have an higher ppi)
    • Thin bezels (personal preference, but I don't like big bezels on monitor although some are functional, like for camera)
    • Upstream power 90W (ideally enough to charge the laptop also thus having a single cable to the laptop connected)
    • IPS panel (will be used for coding mainly, thus this panel would be the best fit - ideally OLED, but that is too expensive with the rest of the features)
    • No gaming, only for work and personal usage

What do you guys recommend or what do you use as a 27" monitor ? Any other recommendations beside those 2 models?

Was also thinking to go with 32"/34" model, but it could be too big for my desktop and it is almost double in price.

PS: I'm based in Romania and I would prefer to buy it from here in case I have issues with it to be easy to return it.

The Dell U2724DE is not a full 4k monitor, so if you want 4k, you'll need to go with the U2723QE. The U2724DE

supports Thunderbolt, though, so it would give you perhaps better performance if you connect storage peripherals through the display or want to daisy-chain devices. I'm not sure either display supports KVM on a Mac, but I haven't dug that deeply into the specs.

There are dozens of monitors on the market, and in many ways which one a user selects comes down to personal preference. Other users here may well chime in with suggestions, but I'd suggest just looking at the reviews for these two models and any others that you see or that are suggested, compare the specs and prioritize which are most important to you when there are tradeoffs (as there always are), and decide.

Regards.
