iphone16 upgrade

Hi - As an existing member of the Apple upgrade programme, I have used the Apple shop to choose my iPhone 16 Pro Max, its colour, memory size, and selected Apple care, also my financing has been approved - this now sits in my devices for pre-order, I have been advised that to trade in and upgrade to this phone I will receive an email from Apple on 13/09, to arrange a date/time for picking up said iPhone at my local store, when in store I will then trade in and obtain the new phone. I will not need to check out through my Apple shop app for reservation…is this correct - any advice welcomed…thanks
