The 13" 2022 MacBook Pro would be the model with a base M2 chip. It is very much like a 13" M2 MacBook Air that lacks a MagSafe 3 charging port, but has a Touch Bar. It doesn't' have the third USB-C (Thunderbolt) port, or HDMI port, or mini-LED-backlit display of higher-end 14" MacBook Pros that use Pro and Max chips.

Compared to the 13" 2022 MacBook Pro, the 15" 2024 MacBook Air has these upgrades:

  • A newer processor (M3 instead of M2)
  • A larger screen
  • A MagSafe 3 charging port
  • A better Webcam (1080p vs. 720p) and
  • The ability to drive two external displays (with limitations) when the lid is closed. For the 13" M2 MBP, the limit is one external display, period, even when the lid is closed.

With MacBook Pros, the power machines are those that use Pro and Max chips.

The 13" M1 MacBook Pro, 13" M2 MacBook Pro, and 14" M3 MacBook Pro only have about the same amount of power as the corresponding MacBook Airs. The 14" M3 MacBook Pro has a mini-LED backlit screen, HDMI port, SDXC card slot, and fan/fans, but we're still talking about the same processor as in the M3 MacBook Airs.

The choice of processor chip affects various things, including the CPU, the GPU, available RAM options, number of USB-C / Thunderbolt ports, and number of supported external displays.

Of course I know this but some advice will help me make a decision, I just wish to know which is the better machine regardless of what I use it for. Not knowing much about all of the fancy things inside the machine I hoped someone might be able to say which is the better to go for in terms of just being a better laptop. When you go in apple they tell you that you could buy any as it will literally be able to do anything you want on any of them 🤷🏼‍♀️.

I am planning to do the usual things really documents, video calls, some video editing, bit of everything I guess. 🙂
