Will a swollen battery on iPhone 13 affect trade in?

Heyyy folks, I found the battery of my iphone 13 was swollen today. I stoped using it immediately, then I preorder an iphone 16 pro.

how long does it gonna take for me to receive the new iphone after preorder?

Does anyone know will the battery swollen affect the trade-in value? My iphone 13 was in really good condition.

Thanks! Have a good one

As others are correctly suggesting the phone will not be accepted in trade, nor should it be used in its current condition. It should be recycled responsibly. Apple and BestBuy will recycle the phone appropriately for you.

I believe they will. But they may also charge you to repair the other damage.
I guess it's up to each store. A good friend didn't take my advice and didn't replace the battery in his iPhone, which was well below 80% and the battery swelled, with no obvious other damage and all the Apple Store was willing to do was recycle the phone.

yeahhhhh. I just get back from apple genius bar, they said they can replace my battery.

But mine was bought from China, if there is some damage caused by the repair they will be not responsible for it......... and will not offer a new one because it is from China not Canada.

Thankyou though, Im going to take it back to china someday and make it likes new : ) Thanks to everyone who replied this thread 💗

Make an appointment at the Apple Store or take the phone to an authorized Apple service shop to let them take a look. You can find a list of authorized shops in your area using this link:

They will determine what can and cannot be done with your phone. My guess is that they will refuse to service the phone, but of course I may be wrong. It all depends on the degree of swelling and whether that has physically affected other parts of the phone.

In other words, if the outer case of the phone has been distorted for example, the shop may refuse to even look further at the phone at that time.

Thanks guys, good reminders.
How should I deal with my iphone 13 now?
Should I book a battery replacement service? But it will cause some extra costs.
Does anyone have some good recommendations for me?

You can look at the difference between the cost of replacing the battery and how much you'll get from the trade-in if your phone is in good shape. If you'll still make money, you may want to do it. If not, Apple can recycle the phone.

Of course, if you are going to need the phone for the next month or so, you still might want to replace the battery.
