HP printer/scanner have worked without problems for the last 3 years, but suddenly it was impossible. I gor a window with the text "HP. ...sudednly stopped", try again. Reinstalling: I can download, but when opened: "Failed suddenly. Try again". And that is the only answer I get. Tried to uninstall, reinstall, but the result is always the same.

Get the current version of HP Easy Scan from the Mac App Store and try it again with your scanner. It was last updated 6 mo ago. Or, try HP Smart for Desktop which was last updated 2 weeks ago.
Neither application will preclude having the printer/scanner drivers required for Sonoma compatibility. Check your HP device against Apple's AirPrint-supported devices to see if you need HP software and drivers.
The current HP Easy Scan in the Mac App Store has support for macOS 13 and 14 (Sonoma) but was last updated 6 mo ago. Several versions of Sonoma have been released since HP last updated this application and that may mean it is not compatible with Sonoma 14.6. You might contact HP and see if they have switched their support on Sonoma to the more recently updated HP Smart product.
Your preference for the HP app used may not coincide with HP's tool planning for the current version of macOS.
Just to add the HP Smart has a scanner option in it. I run a HP 2700.

I know, which is why I also mentioned it and is described in the Mac App Store entry at the link I provided above.
I have the HP Smart - but missed the HP Easy, which I prefer. Installing of "Easy" is impossible - tried 5 times yesterday.
