Apple Notes: Can my employer see or access them?

I have a work iPhone and use notes regularly for personal collaborations (with friend and family) and as a journal so they are not something I want to be sharing with my employer. I'm signed into the phone using my personal Apple ID (employer does not have that information) but the phone is corporately managed - they install certain apps (outlook, etc.) and mange most settings.

What I'm looking to understand is how private are my notes? I prefer to use the notes app for ease of use but, do I need to be using a different app to ensure my notes are private?

Thanks for your help.

You should assume that your employer has complete access, especially on a corporate device. You can verify what access the company has with your IT staff, and it’s never a good idea to use a personal ID on a work device. Some employers with BYOD install certificates for access and some limited control over settings but do not generally access personal info.

From what I understand about Notes, is that Locked Notes are saved to iCloud and anything that isn't is is on the iPhone. If the iCloud account is yours and you have the data protection option enabled on the iPhone then if they have access to it they could possibility read the unlocked Notes. My thinking it that the Outlook app might be running the emails through their servers if they are large enough.

I would ask the management what they have access to if you don't trust them.

That depends on where you live.

Where I live, everything you create on a company owned device is their property. If you write a book on your company phone, at home, in your own free time. That book is still their property as they provided you with the means to write the book (they provided the phone).

On the other hand it is illegal for a company here to look into an employers work e-mail account here.

So I guess the notes fall somewhere in between, whilst they are private, they are also created content.

I would *always* advice to get a personal device and don't use your business phone for anything personal.
