Right-click in Messages app (macOS) only works intermittently

Using the Apple Messages app in macOS (Sonoma 14.6.1, M1 Macbook Pro), there is a bug where right-clicking a message in a conversation is ignored.

Right click should bring up the context menu with emojis, Tapback..., Reply... etc (see screenshot).

It does work, but very intermittently. I just tried four times, the first 3 worked with the first right-click, then the fourth one took 10 right-clicks to work.

I learned today if you long left-click the message, you get the emoji choice bubble at least, as a workaround if you get tired trying to get right click to work.

I can see people complaining about the same thing 2 years ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/zun4k7/right_click_doesnt_work_in_messages/)

My problem isn't "right/secondary click isn't working". It works fine elsewhere. It works intermittently in the Messages app, too.

My problem is that it works unreliably in Messages, when clicking on a message in a conversation.

Respectfully " Tomayto tomahto " >> " Right click should bring up the context menu with emojis, Tapback.. " >>

If it does not perform to expectations

Start now and open an Apple Support Ticket as they are PAID  Apple Employees to deal will these types of issues .

Product Feedback - and make it known to Apple as a Bug Report

Be aware, Apple will have to thoroughly Test this on their equipment and have a reliable, consent and repeatable Non functionality

Then and only then, they may or may not consider this a " Bug "

There really is No Right Click but rather a Secondary Click

Check the setting in System Setting >> Trackpad configuration
