iCloud storage vs iPhone

I’ve been paying 9.99 a month for 1TB of iCloud storage while my iPhone only has 256GB of storage. If the iCloud storage is larger then on my phone and you can only store on the iCloud as much as your phone can store, then what is the point of offering more iCloud storage than one’s phone can store? The iCloud syncs two ways so I can never utilize the 1TB and get my money’s worth.

The iCloud space offered to me should have only been 256GBs. How do I store up to a terabyte on iCloud if it only copies what’s on my phone?

There should be an option (besides the unsync option) when one’s phone is getting full that it will ask if you would like to upload the photo or video to the iCloud and delete it from your phone.

if I optimize and only store smaller versions of photos and videos on my phone will i be able to even get close to a terabyte of iCloud storage?

I feel ripped off by Apple.

Yes but Apple doesn’t explain that iCloud is not the same as, for example, Microsoft OneDrive or google drive where I can upload and fully use what I’m paying for.

OneDrive doesn’t sync two ways. If I delete something from my phone it still stays on OneDrive (thank you Microsoft) and the same with google drive (thank you Google).

This makes sense whereas with Apple it has the appearance of a money grab and profiting off confusion. Had I known that I wouldn’t be able to fully utilize the 1tb of iCloud space I wouldn’t have spent the 10 dollars a month.

is it possible to use iCloud like OneDrive? is there an iCloud app? can I upload and then delete from my computers SSD drive? Or will it delete from both locations? This is a perfect example of how Apple should take a lesson from Microsoft and Google and model iCloud like Google drive and OneDrive.

Having two way sync is, in my opinion, not a good idea. I need space on my phone and having it on my phone and a duplicate on iCloud is good for redundancy but also not necessary because I also back up everything to my OneDrive and my google drive.

After I migrate everything from iCloud to OneDrive I’m staying with OneDrive because I pay only 6.99 for 1tb and if I delete anything from my phone it stays on OneDrive. I like that. Two way sync is kind of a burden.

You’re describing a situation where you have one device that’s 256 GB. Apple has 1 terabyte iPhones and 2 TB Mac’s so the higher iCloud storage is useful to some people.

There are many different ways and configurations people can use iCloud. Apples just gonna give you storage option available so you’ve just got it determine what works best for your setup.
