What's ISO Disk Image?

So I got something on my downloaded files , it has a really long name and it says it's a ISO Disk Image. The size of it is 5,97 GB , I wanna delete it but I don't know if it's something important related to my MacBook.

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 14.5

Hi kewykew,

Can you post the entire name of the iso file, please? In you image the name is cut off at REFRESH…

My hope that seeing the full name will offer a quick clue as to what the iso file is before further investigation.

As to what is an ISO, HiyaThereLovely has pretty much answered that question. ISO files are typically used for distributing software, operating system images, or backups.
